The Photographer

I am Joan McQuaid. At 12 years old I grabbed my family’s camera during a vacation to the American West and have had cameras in my hands ever since.

My formal education includes a B.A. in Journalism, with an emphasis in photography. Upon graduation from the University of Central Oklahoma I attended the Art Institute of Boston (now within Lesley University) for additional fine art photography courses.

Today I use the latest professional grade digital cameras, lenses, and photography software. My creative passion is making images that showcase the beauty of nature and capture distinctive scenes. The photographs feature the detailed simplicity and hard-to-put-into-words grandeur of nature — as well as the clever, subtle, sometimes rare and always captivating scenes that enrich our everyday lives.

Personally, not many people can claim this; I am the daughter of a career Special Agent in the FBI.  As a kid, I witnessed my father’s trained observation skills. I learned early and often the power of paying attention to details, recording fleeting moments, and sharing things that matter.

During the course of my career in marketing and communications roles, I always included making original photos, some of which were published in a book, used for case studies, and showcased various projects in corporate offices.

I hope my passion for photography inspires you to decorate the places where you live, work, and play with beautiful photos.
